Most privacy lock  have a hole in the knob on the outside, the lock can be unlocked by simply using any tool that is small enough to be pushed into the whole. You may use a small screw driver or even the inside part of a pen.

We recommend to , keep such a tool handy. In case it is locked by a  young child with you on the outside and the child on the inside. It could save you from considerable anxiety and frustration trying to get a child to unlock the door.
