Hi, I’m Terry from Mr Locksmith Training, and this video is going to be about a snap ring pliers. If you do not have this tool it is going to be a pain in the butt for rekeying or repairing some locks. This is my favorite Snap Ring Plyer and is one of my favorite tools. I have had this Snap-on Snap Ring Plyers forever.

It’s a snap ring pliers and it’s from Snap-On, and this is the 45-degree angle. They call it the diameter is the .038, and it’s convertible or reversible, so you can change. Look at that, just easy to turn. So it goes from trying to expand it and I can shift it over very easily. It’s got two holes. Very easily over to here, and then, it. And it goes to trying to expand it to contract it. So as locksmiths, there’s some other types of deadbolts and key-in-knobs that we use this on.

I like the 45-degree angle, see it’s angled there, it is a 45 degree angle and I have a straight tip as well, but I tend to use the 45 degree angle the most. It is a tool, if you do not have it, you are going nuts when you don’t have it, so have this in your toolbox. Now I’ll show you. Basically one of the most popular locks that we use it on is that the old-style Weiser, the old-style Weiser key-in-knobs, this is the old style. So one of the most common locks is the Weiser, and there are Corbins and Sargents that I use it on too, but this is what I got handy.

The pliers are easy to us and just lightly, just take it off, and then I can re-key it, I can shim it, re-key it, do whatever. And again, there’s the snap ring. And quite simple, you do not go crazy on expanding it. Now some tools, some machinery you would replace this, but if you’re gentle, you can put it back on. I’ve never had one of these go bad if I pulled it off carefully. I have come to them where they’ve been expanded like crazy and I have to replace them. So very simple. The snap ring plyer is convertible Snap-On tools.

Now the new model number is SRPCR 3845 for the 45-degree angle. And if you want the straight ones, and I have a pair of straight ones somewhere kicking around, the number of the straight one is SPRCR 3800, so 3800, and that is straight. This is the 45-degree, which I like the best. And you can get a 90, I never used the 90s, never. This has been, I’ve had this a long time. The one reason I like Snap-On is that when these little tiny, and again, this is .038 diameter, when they wear out or get broken, then Snap-On just give me a new pair, and they do not even argue. There are other brands, Mac Tools make some nice ones. There’s a whole pile of good quality ones. These things are under $40. Snap Ring Pliers for Locksmiths
